In this loud, fast-paced, and often heartless world, it’s easy to feel hopeless in our daily lives. We lose the light that brings laughter and joy into our hearts—a loss so profound it can lead us down dark paths. It might push us to settle for less, like accepting a partner who doesn’t value us, staying in a job that underpays and undervalues us, or even contemplating life-ending thoughts.
This post means a great deal to me because I’ve been there—not long ago, in fact, less than a year ago. I lost all hope, laughter, love, and the dreams that once made my life vibrant. They faded into shadows before my eyes, losing all their color and meaning.
It’s a deeply painful existence to breathe but not truly live, especially while watching others around you brim with energy and hope. Often, we turn this despair inward, blaming ourselves for what we’ve lost. But the truth is, this isn’t your fault—it’s simply time for a change.
If you’re ready to leave that dark place behind and invite joy, happiness, and hope back into your life—more than you’ve ever known—this post is for you.
Warning:
This space isn’t for the timid. It’s for those who dare to dream big and are ready to take bold risks to achieve what they truly want. If you believe you’re one of us, keep reading.
Understand the situation that is stealing hope from you
Take a moment to uncover the source of this feeling of emptiness. Reflect on your surroundings and notice if anything is triggering these emotions. Bringing more awareness into your life is essential for identifying and addressing the roots of hopelessness. Here are two powerful tools to help you:
·Meditation
Meditation or breathing exercises are incredibly effective for grounding yourself in the present moment and becoming more aware of your environment. At first, this practice might feel unsettling as you begin to notice subtle details—both positive and negative—that you may have overlooked before. However, it’s an invaluable tool, especially if you struggle to stay focused throughout your day.
·Journaling
Writing is a powerful way to reflect on your experiences and emotions. It allows you to observe what’s happening in your life and how these events affect you. For instance, imagine you feel a wave of sadness but can’t pinpoint its cause. By setting aside just seven minutes to journal about your day, you might uncover the moment or event that sparked that feeling. Recognizing these patterns helps you identify the source of your hopelessness.
Journaling is also beneficial for making life decisions. By tracking your thoughts and emotions daily, you’ll better understand yourself—your limits, what you can handle, and what feels overwhelming. This self-awareness will empower you to navigate life with greater clarity and confidence.
Try finding solutions if they are available.
If you have lost hope because you are not good enough to do the job you would like, the solution is pretty simple: Try taking courses and educating yourself so that you can improve your performance at work.
Another thing can be feeling lonely and learning how to make friends. I know it may sound hard to you, but believe me, if you really try with all your heart and are positive about it, then you will see great results. I promise.
So, sit down, think about the source of this lack of hope, and try to find solutions on your own first. Some problems are not complicated; they just need attention.
Participate in something strange to you
I want you to try out something insane and new. Add something incredibly out of your comfort zone into your life, and I want you to force yourself to keep it for a while.
Sometimes, the reason we lose hope is because we are tired of all the old stuff. As humans, we are smart creatures; we are always craving something new, something that brings out creativity. Something that excites us.
So maybe all you need is to open up for new opportunities, like a new hobby.
- Try out drawing
- Reading
- Painting
- Cooking
- Makeup
- DIY crafts
- Home décor
- Fashion
- Writing
- Researching
- Swimming
This change may be the thing you need to bring back hope into your life; it may even cause you to find out something about yourself you never knew before. It might become the source of your income too.
Having something to look forward to in your day is what makes life worth living. We get excited for that time when all our senses are awake and our energy is buzzing. You never know where yours is hidden; try finding your passions and talents by trying out some new activities.
It can also mean sometimes to change your job; it might have burned you out to the point where it is stealing away the joy of life from you. This job is not worth your mental health. I am not saying leave your job and live in the streets. What I am trying to let you understand here is that you can always find money in another environment where you are at peace.
Try searching for better opportunities, and study if you must. Develop the skills needed to get where you will live filled with hope and excitement.
Life is too short and expensive to be lived without happiness or hope. You can always switch things around and make it better; it is never out of your control. It is your life; you always have a chance.
Why do we lose hope?
So, what is the reason that makes us lose hope?
You may find yourself losing hope when you are in the wrong environment. If you are living in a place where it doesn’t align with your expectations, you tend to close yourself up and start panicking and losing all the hope and confidence you used to have.
To me, this was when I chose architecture in university. I felt like I didn’t belong; no matter how hard I tried, I was never even close to those around me. This led me to hate the major and start hating every task given to me, which meant I hated 90% of my day.
Continuing with this habit led me to forget who I am or how skilled and talented I was; it made me repeat the same thoughts over and over again, ‘You are not enough; you didn’t do well,’ which drained me of all my energy and kept me dreading my every day.
Life is too beautiful to be measured by the things that we are not meant for. I was just in the wrong environment; I belonged somewhere else, somewhere where I am good.
Somewhere I can shine and be happy and excited for the next task. Somewhere you feel welcome. Needed.
We all want to feel worthy, important, and precious in our environment; no one wants to feel like the background is unseen, not wanted, or unworthy. I know there are millions of people out there who would tell you that you don’t need people to be happy, and maybe that is true, but isn’t life better when you are around people who value you, compliment you, and help you be happy? Love you?
Isn’t it everyone’s dream to feel wanted and desired? Seen?
When you feel like a ghost in your environment, it tends to affect your performance in any task given. The truth is, we need each other. We need to be surrounded by those who love us; ask us about how the day has gone; get compliments on our achievements; we love this.
Often when we feel like we have no one’s support, we tend to stop, we lose the motivation to keep moving, and we lose hope. Because the truth is, you are not enough, and I know you are shaking your head right not about to leave this post, but the truth is always this way: we need each other to keep motivating and inspiring each other.
That is why we love social media; it connects us. It helps us see what others are doing and what they are thinking. We love the fact that we can comment and interact with them. This gives us hope to keep moving with our lives. It makes us feel like we are part of something beautiful; we are involved.
We are one.
The reason I didn’t like the architecture wasn’t because I was terrible at sketching or working on the tasks; it was because I was surrounded by people who didn’t make me feel welcome. I felt left out and alone.
It was boring and lonely; I would watch all the girls with their friends doing the tasks, and my inner child would be crying silently inside me. She wanted that too.
But you cannot make someone like you; you can only find your people who would choose to love you. People who would be your hope, your motivation, and your inspiration. Those who you won’t be able to wait just so you can see them.
Talk to them and have their energy around you. I pray we all be gifted with such friends who bring all the hope with their energy. I pray we all find peace and hope and God on our path.
I pray your dreams come true in a way that brings happy tears to your beautiful face. Never lose hope. It is always within your reach. Never truly lost.
