As toddlers, we have always looked around us and dreamed of all those things we wish to become when we get older. How we would like to help others, the problems we hope to solve, we can sometimes even find solutions while we are still young but unable to take action due to our age and the fact that others won’t take us seriously.
I am sure each of us had told themselves at least once “When I am old enough I would …” We have always believed we would be different than those around us when we are old enough for this world to take us seriously.
Unfortunately, we grew up and with time those dreams were forgotten or stolen, someone ended up telling us how foolish we are to think we are capable of such a thing. We start fearing being judged by others and we end up digging graves for each of our dreams protecting them from this cruel world.
You and I might not be aware at the time that we are doing this, but with time this becomes a habit. Every time an extraordinary idea pops up we hurry to tuck it right in till it rotes within us.
This action might seem harmless, but with time we end up feeling stuck in a world when we are unable to change a thing in it. We start to feel like puppets in our own lives, our routines are not like we dreamed it to be.
We are not surrounded by people we have always wished to be around and we are not exploring the world as we had always planned to make ourselves feel better, we claim that those dreams are ‘unrealistic’ and that this is the reality.
This is what is possible. But that is not true, and that is why I decided to talk today.
This post is very important to everyone including myself. This is your old self coming back to talk to you. Guide you.
There is more to life than what you were told to believe, you are more capable of more than you ever dreamed of. Or to put it in one of my favorite quotes:
“If you can dream it, you can have it”
So, grab your favorite snack, and let’s do just that.
Never stop believing in your dreams
You will never find something you don’t believe exists, believing in something is the first step to get it. You need to believe that your dreams are waiting for you somewhere so that you can start searching for the ship that would help you get there.
Even God asked us to believe in Him first before we start worshiping Him. Because He knows the power of faith. You need to have faith in what you want.
You need to believe that you can get it, that it is there somewhere you just need to work hard to get it. Your job is just to search for it.
Some dreams are created, like inventing something, but you need to believe that the knowledge and the tools already exist, you just need to put in the work to create it.
Let’s say for example your dream is to start a business, that earns you billions. You need to believe that your customers exist and they have the money you seek.
Why?
Because even if you start a business, if you don’t believe that those billions exist, guess what? You will give up before you even get there.
Because what is the point in working for something that isn’t there? So, research if you like, and find out that your dream already exists. That there are people out there willing to pay you that much for your work.
This will motivate you every day to do the work required to get there. It will help you stay consistent on your journey because you can see the dream already within reach. Just one more step and you will get it.
Here are some tips to help you keep believing in your dreams:
- Create a vision board
- Write your dreams in a diary
- Believing in God’s strength to make the impossible possible
These are simple but very practical steps that would help you hold yourself accountable wherever you feel like giving up and stop believing in your dreams.
Write them down in detail
Writing your dreams in detail helps you have a better picture of what you want and this helps form a good plan later to help you make them happen.
I want you to open a notebook and write down everything you ever wished for that you can remember right now. Let them all out I don’t care how ridiculous they may sound “enjoying a sandwich while on the moon” just write them down.
Make sure you leave nothing out, everything exactly as you want it. You can even choose the color of the feeling you wish to experience everything.
Don’t think just write write write.
After that I want you to look at each of these dreams and ask yourself if you truly want them, I don’t care if they sound stupid or unrealistic, what matters is how badly you want them.
Cross out everything that you have outgrown and doesn’t excite you anymore and leave what you are still interested in to see it happen.
Give each one of these dreams a deadline.
Find the dream you wish for the most and ask yourself how long it take for you to make it happen. If it’s something you need to study then how long would it take for you to master it?
Give it a deadline, a date when you will hold yourself accountable. Make sure that every dream that matters to you, has a deadline.
This will help you a lot when you start working, you will know how to divide your energy and what you should be working on at this time.
It will also bring peace to you since you know that you will make each of your dreams into reality and that each one has a date on its own to come into your life.
The excitement of seeing your dreams will help you put extra effort into the work you produce, hoping the results will get even better.
This is a great technique to get your head on the game and stay focused on one task at a time.
Make time in your schedule to make your dreams happen
Ask yourself how many hours you can get out of your day to focus on that dream that you are so excited about, which at this time is not a dream anymore it has become a goal.
Make time to work on this dream, even if you don’t know where to start, make time to find out. Research.
Study those who have what you want and do what they do in your way.
Stay disciplined and stubborn when it comes to your dreams
Make sure that you are consistent in the steps you are taking and not just giving up the moment the work starts getting hard or boring.
The secret to success is consistency. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done.
Lessons will be learned along the way, perfection will come on its own. But the work should be done no matter what you are feeling (unless you are seriously sick of course then please go see the doctor)
Stay a student
Everyone knows something you don’t. You will lose all your dreams when you stop being a student. So, stay a student no matter how much it may hurt your ego.
Successful people never stop learning from those around them. There is always more room for growth.
This world is always changing, so make sure you are always connected with those around you for any news that may concern your plan to create what you want.
Listen if there is a ship that takes people to the moon so that you can go grab that sandwich of yours.
People will keep you informed about what is going on in this world while you might be too busy buried in your work. So, make sure you are willing to learn always.
Remember, you have two ears and one tongue. There is a reason for that.
Stay positive always
Being positive is so important in this journey to make your dreams come true, many people will try to scare you off so that you will give up.
If you are not positive, their words may get to you. They may succeed in stopping you,m but if you are positive that would be so hard that they will give up so quickly.
Believe that it is possible, and stay positive in each of those hard situations. Learn from them.
You need to know that God is sending you all these circumstances so that He can prepare you for what is coming, not so that you will quit.
Your journey won’t go as planned, and never will. There will be huge waves along the way, and you might feel like giving up at times.
But when that happens, I want you to keep moving. Be positive, hope for the best, and do the work.
Believe me, it will pay off eventually. These are just lessons you need to learn so that you will have all that wisdom you need when you have what you want.
So, stay positive, and search for the light in every situation. There is always the bright side, something good out of each situation.
Make time to think and reflect.
The thing is no one knows the way to success. I can sit with you all day long and try to help you turn your dreams into reality, but my path differs from yours.
Each of us is extraordinary, and our paths are created only for us. The only way to find it is through walking and talking pauses along the way to reflect and think deeply about each situation and how we can learn and from it or improve our actions for better results in the future.
Thinking and reflecting will take you in the long run, you can read all you like. Listen to all the advice on the planet, but I tell you this; if you don’t stop for a minute and think deeply each day about how you can improve each day and each experience you go through, your dreams will be just that, dreams.
This is not a threat, but as humans we should never underestimate the power of our brains. Make sure you make time every single day, in the evening I would recommend, reflecting on each experience and asking yourself how you could have handled it better.
This is not to make you regret your old decisions, no. It’s rather to make sure you keep on growing and dealing with each situation better than the day before.
When they say to become 1% better each day, I believe this is how you do it. It can be you staring at the stars with a cup of tea or whatever you enjoy drinking at night. Or it can be you journaling your feelings and thoughts at least for 7 minutes each day before you go to bed.
I know this may sound so easy, but it can be challenging when you don’t feel like writing and are exhausted from all the events in your day you wish to do nothing but sleep and watch your favorite Netflix series.
This is simple but very beneficial. You will start to notice your reactions and things you used to do unconsciously. It is also known to help you understand yourself better.
You will see what makes you happy, and sad and what triggers you.
You will know the reason why you feel a certain way after doing something. This is like digging deep within you and seeing yourself from the very roots.
It helps you understand why you chose that dream and why you are facing these problems along the way. It also helps you solve each one of your problems.
I never knew how impactful this can be till I started solving problems I never knew existed but they were bothering me so much and stopping me from living the life of my dreams.
This is you building a relationship with yourself. Believe me, if you love yourself even a little, you would like to give this a shot.
Hold yourself accountable
How many times have you promised yourself to go get that dream and ended up giving up on it? How many?
You wanna know why?
Get ready for this, it’s because you are not holding yourself accountable. You are not taking your dreams seriously.
To change that, you need to be your own boss and make sure you get the job done, they say behind every dream there is a nightmare. So do you really want to achieve that goal?
If so then why are you chilling so much? Why aren’t you making time for accountability?
Why aren’t you punishing yourself when you are not doing what you are supposed to do?
Self-rewarding and self-punishment are both important on this journey of self-love. You need to hold responsibility for each of your actions.
If you were supposed to finish something in a certain time and you still haven’t done that make sure you punish yourself for that. That can look like no movies for that day or you won’t treat yourself to that restaurant you wanted to go to.
It shouldn’t be something harmful but also it should make your inner self understand that there are consequences when you abandon your dreams.
It is harsh I know, but we are all lazy, we love to eat without doing anything to get those dreams because our brains don’t think they are important. As long as we are safe and comfortable in the place we are today our brains don’t see the necessity of suffering so much to get all that work done when we are comfortable where we are.
So here it’s your job to make sure there are consequences for your actions, do this if you love yourself so much that you are willing to do anything for a better life.
Punishments can be anything, from donating something you love, cleaning something you have been avoiding, or reading a self-help book when you want to just hang out with your friends. It has to be something that brings you closer to your goals and at the same time you hate it.
It shouldn’t destroy you, you can create ajar and fill it with notes of things you need to do but hate to and make those your punishment whenever you skip doing what you promised yourself to do.
